Skinfood Egg White Pore Mask Review

If my nose were a garden, my pores would be gopher holes, and my blackheads would be the fat gophers living inside. But thankfully I've come across this pore mask, which I am just loving!

Brand: Skin Food [스킨푸드]
Name: Egg White Pore Mask [에그 화이트 포어 마스크]
Amount: 100g
Price in Korea: 8,000KRW

Basically, this wash-off mask claims to do two things to your pores: 1) cleanse, and 2) shrink. They say: It penetrates deep into your pores, binding to and removing any blackheads and pore-clogging oil. The albumin-rich egg white extract promotes firmer skin and smaller pores.

▼ It comes in a sturdy, medium-sized plastic tub lined with stickers. You can peel the cap sticker open to find the ingredients!

The container might seem modest in size at first, but it actually holds quite an abundant amount inside, enough to last me at least 7 months or so! Inside you'll also find a thin, plastic inner lid: ▼

Off-white in color, this is a creamy, soft, and buttery paste that smells of flowers. It’s quite moist for a paste, though not in the least bit runny. (It dries up once you apply it, actually!) The moisture-shine is a bit exaggerated in my photos...it's actually quite matte in real life! Me bad~ ^^;

Application is very smooth. It practically glides onto your skin! Soon afterwards it begins drying. It dries into a soft, powder-like veneer over your skin.

It feels very gentle on my face. Sometimes I get a "spicy" warm feeling, but it's benign. I have normal/dry skin and I don’t find the mask drying for my skin, nor does it make my skin feel tight. I mean, I do feel *the mask* drying up, but not as though it’s taking moisture from *my* skin, you know?

So how well did it live up to its claims?

1.) Cleansing/Blackhead Removal: It does indeed noticeably pull out my blackheads! See how in the After photo my blackheads look like they're peeling a bit? Those are actually the heads poking out!
(I'll have you note that the blackheads in the second row are deep and usually veryy hard to remove!)

This time there was only a slight difference, but back when my pores/blackheads were ginormous it would pull them out about a 1/4 or 1/3 of the way! It was enough to see them poking out with the naked eye, yet not enough that they could be easily removed with mere exfoliation. Plucking maybe... It's a double-edged sword I suppose~

2.) Shrinking: Again, back when I had larger pores, I saw very noticeable shrinkage (about 30-40%), but lately I've noticed less change since my pores are smaller now (although I can't say that's due to the mask though, since I don't use it regularly).

So instead, here is a photo of my boyfriend's results, since his pores show up better on camera:
Notice how much smoother his pores are after; you can even see his blackheads poking out a bit at the bottom!

Usually within a day or so my pore size returns to normal. As of right now I can't comment on possible long-term results, but I'll update this post once I reach a conclusion!

[Update 8/17/12: Two months later, my pores are noteably smaller, even on bad days. (Of course, I can't be compleeetely sure this is due to the mask though!) Also, as I mentioned before, with smaller/less clogged pores, come smaller results. You'll also want to make sure you exfoliate for maximum effectiveness!]

[Update 9/23/12: Yep, it's affirmative! Now that my pores are smaller and much less clogged--they used to be over-the-top clogged, but now they're only about halfway clogged, if that makes any sense--I see barely any 'pulling out of blackheads' and just a wee bit of pore size shrinking.

So in conclusion, bigger pores, blackheads --> bigger results! smaller pores, blackheads --> smaller results]

I really really like it! This is the first mask that actually visibly reduces my pore size and removed my blackheads! (Well, kind of removed.) You know how all these skin products always talk about minimizing pores, but meh, I never notice anything...! And even though this doesn't fully remove my blackheads, I still think the partial extraction is a good prep to complement any subsequent methods of blackhead removal! :)
Whew, hope that helped! So what do you think? What's your Pore TLC regimen?

*PS, just a reminder to join my giveaway! I can't believe most of my followers (prior to the giveaway) haven't joined! You're practically already in, you know! What, you no like my choice of goodies? :(

    1. Ah, really? Nooo, I have terrible camera skills! I wish I had your skills! I had to crop my photo so far for the pores to show up...Somehow when it focuses, it's very very clear and detailed, but once I snap the picture, all that detail disappears. :<

Well then, I can only presume that you have blackhead-less skin! Tell me your secrets +_+ hahaha~

  4. I've always wanted this one, mainly because I've used egg whites before and damn, those work SO well... but then I always end up hating wasting food on my face. Especially eggs since I love them. Lol

You write such amazing reviews. I look forward to each one!

    1. LOL you're so funny! Haha! Well, I've tried egg whites ONCE a long time ago, but I remember it being a bit drying...? Hmm, I forget! Is it drying for you?? Well as weird as it sounds to recommend the processed version, I do think you should give this a try! And then you can keep your eggs for eating, haha!

And thank you, I'm really really happy to read that~~ >3< Air kiss from CA to Toronto!

  6. Wow your camera is so clear lolz How do you get rid of them once they're poking out???

    1. Loll, it's not that clear actually, I suck at taking photos... >.<
I would just do what you normally would do to get rid of blackheads! Basically I don't think this alone is good enough to remove blackheads completely, but it makes a great prep for a pore mask (or whatever else) since it kinda eases them partway out already!

    1. Thank you Rini! Hmm, I'm not sure what a whitehead is >o< I tried googling and I got two main results....do you mean the big fat pus-filled pimples? Or the little white clogged pores that are kind of like blackheads, only white?
Well, it didn't do much to my big fat juicy pimple...and I don't reallyyy notice many whiteheads on my nose, so I can't be too sure. I will say for sure that it doesn't pull it EVERYTHING from my nose...It definitely pulls out the bigger ones a lot more though (but again, only partway)! Hope that helped~ Lemme know if you have other questions!

    1. Haha! Well I didn't INTEND for it to be convincing, I was just trying to say what it is! >o< But thank you for your compliments!

But hmm, I dont' want people to get their hopes up TOO much (and be very disappointed), so I should remind you that doesn't pull out EVERYYYTHING, only some of them partway! But I still like it a lot! :D

  14. That mask looks so effective!! @_@ I love using pore strips, but I guess they're kind of painful >< A mask would probably be a better thing to use. Thanks for making this review ^^<333

    1. Ooh, yeah pore strips can be a bit painful! I use Shills instead of pore strips and it's not that painful~ :3

Hmm..so I think this mask isn't good enough to fully remove blackheads on its own, but if you use it in conjunction with another method, I think it'll be super effective because this mask pulls them out partway first!

well.. i have never used mask before, so, when do we use this mask? on evening or white? on semi dry or dry face? i mean how to use it ^0^

    1. Hello Yoong! Pores are sooo annoying, especially blackheads!

You use it after you wash your face (dry) and leave it on for 15 minutes. Then you wash it off. I'm not sure if it matters whether you put it on in the morning or night...I guess whenever you feel like it! I don't think it matters... >.< Sorry I don't have an answer for that part!
